Christopher Anvil

Christopher Anvil , egentligen Harry Christopher Crosby , (född 11 mars 1925 i Norwich , † 30 november 2009 i Cayuta , New York ) var en amerikansk science fiction- författare.

Liv

Hans första novell, "Cinderella, Inc.", kom ut 1952, och hans andra, "Roll Out the Rolov!", Publicerades 1953 i science fiction-tidningen Imagination . Båda under namnet Harry C. Crosby. Hans nästa publikation uppträdde 1956 i tidningen Astounding under den pseudonym som han uteslutande använde sedan dess. Det var novellen "Pandoras planet", som förmodligen är en av hans mest kända. Det trycktes ofta igen, fick en uppföljare och utvidgades senare till en roman. Anvils berättelser dök upp om och om igen i Häpnadsväckande och i uppföljningstidningen Analog , för han visste hur man skulle hämta redaktionens favoritplottar John W. Campbell : Utlänningar med överlägsen teknik och eldkraft tappar kampen mot människor på grund av deras överlägsen intelligens eller på grund av deras oklanderliga vilja. En annan faktor var Anvils humoristiska stavning. Beskrivningen av hans karaktärer bidrog också till hans framgång: han låter dem glida från en katastrof till nästa, bara för att till slut få dem att segra till slut genom intellektuell överlägsenhet.

Han skrev också några noveller om "Humanity Federation" (Termen är baserad på undertexten i boken Interstellar Patrol II , "The Federation of Humanity".). Anvil själv och John W. Campbell kallar denna serie Colonization Series .
